ESC had 5 kids compete in 6 categories at the district individual speech contest in Whiting earlier today!! Jillian Pope (solo musical), Paris McCrea (Improv), and Paige Hout (Prose) each received #2 ratings in their categories! Liam Daggett (Solo musical), Grant Golwitzer (Acting), and Paige Hout (Poetry) all have received #1 rankings in their categories and will be going to the state competition, March 15th at Woodbury Central!! Speech coach, Cassie Schachtner stated the following after their performances today, "I am very proud of all of them! We had some challenges finding time to practice due to snow days and illnesses but we did it! We are all excited to go to state!"

On Wednesday, ESC welcomed in a new group of performers into our new Troope 12, which is now the ESC Troope of the International Thespian Society. The inductees for 2025: Paige Hout, Grant Golwitzer, Miika Grotluschen, Denae Thayer, Sarah Bontrager, Rachel King, Emma Carico, Lauryn Lally, Jaron Schramm, and Jillian Pope. Missing is Libby Gullett and Liam Daggett. "The International Thespian Society is the only theatre honor society for middle and high school students in the United States. Affiliation brings credibility and distinction to students, theatre programs, and schools. It is a visible, positive symbol of the quality of your theatre program. ITS recognizes, rewards, and encourages student achievement and celebrates the work of students in all aspects of theatre – performance and production. Each student is honored on a national level and gains access to opportunities and resources beyond those of their school."

Last night the ESC Music Department put on our 2025 Pops Concert. It was an excellent night for our young musicians! Outstanding performances from both groups!! The theme this year was "A Night on Broadway" featuring music from, Wicked, Mary Poppins, The Phantom of the Opera, and more!!

A big thank you goes out to Dakota Popp, our Sac County Naturalist. She joined us to teach the east Sac County 2nd grade students about animals that live in Iowa. Students learned what they eat and about their tracks. Students were given the opportunity to touch different types of fur from a grey squirrel, fox, and beaver. Thank you to Dakota for extending our students learning in science about local animals!

On Friday, February 21st, four members of the University of Iowa's renowned Writer's Workshop came to East Sac County's 7-12 building in Lake View to work with the 8th graders and the Creative Writing class on poetry. This event was sponsored by the Sac City Arts Council and the Sac Educational Foundation.

This morning we had two groups join us for High Five Friday. Family First Dental in Sac City and Houdini's Soda Fountain in Lake View greeted students as they arrived to school. Thank you for taking time to be a part of our Friday morning at the elementary! Students look forward to this every week!

Alyana from Loess Hills Ag in the classroom visited ESC last Thursday to teach our students about how food gets from the farm to the table. Our students learned about all of the agricultural products that make a pizza! Thank you to Alyana for coming to teach the 2nd grade students about Ag in the classroom!
