Our 5th and 6th grade Band has been busy spreading holiday cheer through some special performances over the past few days. It's always awesome when our younger students can look up to our older students as they accomplish good things in the fine arts and athletics. These 5th and 6th graders were showing our younger students that playing in the Band is COOL while sharing some fun music!!!

Reading and Literacy is very important for growing minds!
ESC Elementary Update:
The elementary set a reading goal at the beginning of the school year to read 216,000 steps by then end of the year. When a student reads for 15 minutes that equals 1 step. Each quarter we have a set goal to reach to see if we are on track for our end goal.
There are 6 weeks left of the 2nd quarter and we are currently at 68,390 steps. The 2nd quarter goal is 108,000 steps. Students are also working towards a personal goal of 600 steps while working towards the schoolwide goal.
The ARC Literacy team is working on a celebration for the K-6 students that meet their end of the year reading goal.
We appreciate that families are finding time for their child(ren) to read and building the life habitat of independent reading. We also appreciate families sending in their steps to the classroom teacher.
Thank you for your support in your child's education!!!

A few weeks back, right before Thanksgiving, Mrs. Peters and a few students from her advisor group went to main street in Lake View delivering treats, wishing them a Happy Thanksgiving, and thanking them for having their business here in town!!!

This is cool. Ever wonder how our younger students learn about Science, or how to be critical thinkers? Check this out.
During our the unit, we have been figuring out if things are hot or “less hot” and what causes this. During our end of the unit investigation, the kids had to answer the question, “How can we make the blacktop less hot”.
** First- they had to figure out what we could do to make it less hot.
** Second- they had to figure out what we would need to complete making the blacktop less hot.
** Third- they had to BUILD one of their ideas, to make the blacktop less hot.
It took a lot of learning to be an engineer: they had to figure out the problem, find a solution, build the solution- and the last step tomorrow- is to figure out if it was a success or not. Then students experimented to figure out which solution worked the best.
Science. Engineering. Problem Solving. Learning!!!
