🧐How would the proposed Voter-Approved Physical Plant and Equipment Levy increase affect the tax payers if it is passed?🧐

The exact impact on your taxes depends on your specific circumstances. However, examples using standard rollbacks and deductions are shown below ⬇️

Residential - 200K assessed value - $30.60 increase per year, 8 cents/day 👀
Ag - 200K assessed value - $50.22 increase per year, 14 cents/day 👀
Commercial - 200K assessed value - $39.49 increase per year, 11 cents/day 👀

Each year as the district prepares the next fiscal year's budget, the board will approve the rates for the VPPEL, Management Fund, Cash Reserve Levy, and Instructional Support Levy. It is possible for this measure to pass and not see an automatic tax increase of 34 cents in next year's budget on the overall tax rate.

The current overall tax rate for ESC is $11.64. The state average for Iowa School districts is $13.21. The proposed additional $0.34 cents would help maintain our current facilities and still keep the ESC tax rate well under the state average.

The Book Fair is almost here!

Next week during Parent-Teacher Conference week, the Elementary will be having their annual book fair in the Elementary Library. All proceeds will go to help buy more books for the library. The students have been watching preview videos and will be bringing home a letter with dates and times as well as how to set up an eWallet, a convenient way for them to shop without having to carry money. They will also be creating wish lists next week!

👀📈✏️🔎 East Sac County 8th graders have been learning the specifics of motion. They were given the task of designing a model to allow the object to travel in a straight line to get an accurate measurement of distance and time to better understand motion. These are just a few of the exciting labs we’ve been doing to incorporate hands-on learning! 👀📈✏️🔎

We have had some people ask, what is the difference between the proposed increased levy rate on the Voter-Approved Physical Plant and Equipment Levy and the passage of a Bond Referendum? We want to clear that up. Take a look at this information.

The ESC Voter-Approved Physical Plant and Equipment Levy measure on the ballot is NOT a Bond Referendum.

The Voter-Approved Physical Plant and Equipment Levy isn't a new tax, we are just asking the public to approve the maximum levy amount to $1.34 compared to the current levy amount of $1.00 per $1,000 of assessed value.

In total, the projected increase in this levy would generate around an addiotnal $175,000 for the district annually to be used specifically to maintain our current facilities, and on technology and transportation for the duration of the voter approved levy.

School districts in Iowa typically use a VPPEL to maintain and improve existing facilities, replace buses or equipment, and update technology — ongoing needs that don’t require large-scale borrowing. A bond referendum, on the other hand, is used for major building projects such as new schools or significant renovations. The VPPEL provides steady funding for upkeep, while a bond referendum allows a district to take on debt for large, long-term investments in school infrastructure.

🌧🚗🚌🚸🅿️One of the proposed facility improvement projects being considered at East Sac County is adding drainage, resurfacing, and possibly reconfiguring the flow of traffic through the Elementary Parking Lot in Sac City. If you have dropped off/picked up students or parked there for a ball game on a rainy day, you may have noticed that there are no drainage intakes in the parking lot itself and portions of the parking lot are in need or replacement and repair. Our plan is to add drainage, replace areas that need replacing, resurfacing areas that can be resurfaced, and redesign the parking lot for the safe pick up and drop off of students while improving traffic flow. This project would be considered a facility improvement and would be funded from the Voter-Approved Physical Plant and Equipment Levy. Please plan on voting Nov. 4th. 🌧🚗🚌🚸🅿️

🔬🧪📊East Sac County 7th graders have been busy learning about different properties of substances. They’ve been doing a lot of labs lately including making density towers! Students had to layer different substances then use their samples to identify different density levels. Science is cool!🔬🧪📊

In Personal Finance, students learned all about careers from how to pick a career that is right for them, filling out applications, completing resumes, writing a cover letter, interviewing, and writing a thank you letter. In the following pictures students are shown completing their mock interviews. Students were to apply to an open sales associate position and interview for that same position. In order to make the process as real world as possible students interviewed each other while the other students in the classroom critiqued their interviews by writing positive aspects and things that need to be improved within the interview process.

Students were to dress up and were graded on appearance, first impressions, interview content, interview technique/skills, and their closing. Students then were required to write a reflection about their interview. This was a great experience for the students; they were able to sit through an interview and get some real world experience before actually interviewing outside of school!
